Visit to Viminacium, the former Roman town and significant military camp as the main center of defense of this part of the frontier from the 2nd century A.D., nowadays an Archaeological Complex covering surface over 450 hectares, make a delightful experience for every visitor. There are remarkable archaeological excavations waiting to be discovered, such as Imperial Mausoleum.

You'll also have the opportunity to see the luxurious thermal baths covered with mosaics and fresco paintings of exceptional beauty, impressive number of tombs and graves as well as the numismatics and jewelery collections. Viminacium was devastated and destroyed in the middle of the 5th century, and it remained forgotten and buried like Pompeii, which disappeared under a flood of lava from Vesuvius in 79 A.D. That analogy and the recognition that the remains of the Roman town and the military camp represent a site of exceptional interest explains why Viminacium has been called the Balkan Pompeii.

Tour Itinerary:

Departure from Zemun Quay at 8:30 and pleasant boat ride in duration of 2,5 hours up to Vinca, the Archaeological sight dating back 5000 years ago, passing by the most romantic Sava and Danube confluence and beautiful Danube shore. Visit to the sight and interactive archaeological workshop. Coach ride to Smederevo and panoramic tour and visit to remarkable Fortress. Short folklore performance. Traditional lunch with delicious local drinks.

After lunch coach drive to Viminacium, significant Roman town and military camp and sightseeing. Relaxed walks around impressive imperial palaces accompanied by “roman senators” whilst discovering the historical and cultural Complex of Viminacium. Lecture on the ”Roman culinary” with tasting. Afternoon coach drive to Belgrade (approximately 1,5 hour drive). Evening arrival and end of programme.
